This is part 3 of Happy Hour Hot Spots. Last week I shared my top five from the Southwest Las Vegas Valley. This week I turn my taste buds to Summerlin. My top 5 spots are picked based on selection, atmosphere, and price.

5. Yard House

The Yard House has 3 popular locations throughout the Vegas Valley. Town Square, The LINQ, and the Summerlin location at the Red Rock Resort. They are known for their numerous tap beer selections. I don't remember when I have seen so many beer taps on display. It is at least 20 yards long. I wonder if that's where the name came from?

The happy hour menu is large as well. It has at least 25 dishes at 1/2 price. They don't cut back on portions either. I had the fried mac & cheese and sliders to start. I should have stopped there but also ordered the Carnivore. It was a personal pizza, but it had loads of meat and flavor. All beer, wine, and cocktails are $2.00 off. Two of us had three appetizers and two 9 ounce wine pours for $32.00. We were pleasantly full. Happy hour is served in the bar, lounge area, and on the patio. Enjoy it from 3-6 Monday thru Friday and late night 10 until closing Sunday thru Wednesday.

4. Brio Italian

Brio is a very popular national restaurant chain. I have tried locations in Florida and Missouri as well as here in Las Vegas. At Tivoli Village in Summerlin, you will find one of the two Las Vegas locations. Cruise into the bar and lounge area and enjoy many offerings priced from $4 -$6. The bruschetta trio is nicely priced at $5, and the garlic and fresh tomato prevail in my opinion. This is a great dish to share. Another shareable is the buffalo chicken nachos. The chips are made in-house and the Gorgonzola cheese makes one of the more unique nacho dishes that I've tried. Had I been alone, it would have been my dinner.

If you want something lighter and brighter, try the tomato mozzarella salad topped with a fresh lemon vinaigrette. They have several other tasty options. Beer and specialty cocktails are also on available. Try a white peach sangria. A great refresher during the Vegas summer. Happy hour is from 3:30 to 6:30 Monday thru Friday.

3. BJ's Restaurant Brewhouse

BJ's is near The Red Rock Resort on West Charleston. Take a seat at the bar and enjoy two of my favorite foods: burgers and pizza. The BJ's Brewhouse Burger is their signature sandwich ... big, beefy, and juicy. Of course, fries come with it. I do the salt and malt vinegar on mine. It works well with this stout sandwich. Also, try the 1/2 priced mini deep dish pizza.

One of the more popular appetizers is the blueberry basted ribs for $6.00. BJ's also serves many of their handcrafted beers during happy hour. Enjoy a cool ale and chips with dip for $3.00. The beer changes seasonally, so while it's hot outside, enjoy a crisp and refreshing Weiss. Happy Hour is from 3 to 7 Monday thru Friday and 10 to closing Sunday thru Thursday.

2. Public School 702

Public School 702 is within walking distance of BJ's. Perfect for the serious happy hour hopper. Yes, 702 does represent Las Vegas' area code. There are several locations in the western United States, each with its own area code, to designate the location. Here they refer to happy hour as recess, my favorite subject when I was a kid. You won't find a swing set or jungle gym, but you will find some fun dishes at $5.00 each.

If you like deviled eggs, like I do, try PS 702's. Made fresh daily, they are topped with crispy prosciutto, chili threads, and micro cilantro. The crispy buffalo cauliflower is one of the most popular starters at all of their locations. They are served with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese dressing for dipping. Get a 1/2 liter of wine (3 glasses) for $15.00. Happy hour begins when school lets out at 3 and ends at 7. Gotta have time to do homework.

1. Honey Salt Food & Drink

Honey Salt Food & Drink on Rampart is my only review with a single location. Here you will find 6 unique food choices all for $5.00. When my wife and I go to a happy hour with a menu set like that, we usually try them all and make it dinner. Items include seared fish tacos served with salsa Verde and fresh avocado. The backyard slider will take you back to the classic cheese on Wonder Bread. Aged cheddar, tomato jam, and pickles served between an artisan roll. Of course, you have to have chips with your sandwich. A nice portion of salt and pepper kettle chips with bleu cheese dip is also $5.00. All beer, wine, and cocktails are 1/2 off. Try them all at the bar, lounge, and patio. Always available Monday thru Friday from 3 to 6.

Hope you enjoyed Happy Hour Hot Spots: Summerlin. Check them out and let me know what you think. Next week I'll be posting on North Las Vegas. Until then … happy eating, happy travels, and happy hours.
